Neeraj Chopra Biography, Age, Partner, Family, Career, Net Worth and more 2026

Neeraj Chopra is one of the most recognizable sporting stars in India today. When he hurled that golden throw in Tokyo in 2021, he changed how an entire nation looked at track and field. Before that afternoon, an Olympic athletics gold felt like an impossible dream for Indian fans.

What makes him stand out is how he handles the fame. Even after reaching the top, he stayed grounded and focused on throwing further. His silver medal at the Paris Games in 2024 proved his remarkable consistency among the world’s best javelin throwers.

His personal life made headlines recently too. In January 2025, Neeraj married former tennis player and coach Himani Mor in Himachal Pradesh. The ceremony was kept quiet and intimate, with only close family and friends around.

On the track, 2025 brought another breakthrough when he crossed the 90-meter mark at the Doha Diamond League. Fans had waited years for that milestone, and he delivered it in style.

As the 2026 season opened, Neeraj adjusted his training setup. After working with Czech legend Jan Zelezny, he reunited with his foundational Indian mentor, Jaiveer Singh Chaudhary, to focus on his natural rhythm.

Brands value him because he comes across as genuine and calm under pressure. From luxury watchmakers to athletic gear, his face is everywhere, yet he never seems distracted by commercial attention.

Here is a complete look at his life story as of 2026, covering his childhood in Haryana, fitness journey, marriage, career milestones, and verified background.

Early Life and Family

Neeraj Chopra was born on 24 December 1997 in Khandra, a farming village in Panipat district of Haryana. He grew up in a joint family where nineteen relatives shared daily meals together. His father, Satish Chopra, and his mother, Saroj Devi, both worked as farmers.

He grew up alongside two sisters, Savita Chopra and Sangeeta Chopra, in an environment rooted in rural discipline and modesty. His elders encouraged the children to stay active and maintain a healthy routine from an early age.

Neeraj attended Bhartiya Vidya Niketan Public School in Panipat before continuing his studies at Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College in Chandigarh. He balanced training with education, completing his Bachelor of Arts degree through Lovely Professional University.

In December 2016, his athletic potential earned him direct recruitment into the Indian Army. He joined the Rajputana Rifles as a Junior Commissioned Officer with the rank of Naib Subedar, gaining financial stability and elite training facilities.

Neeraj Chopra Career

The sports world first recognized Neeraj at the 2016 World Under-20 Championships in Poland, where he broke the world junior record with a throw of 86.48 meters. By 2018, he had added gold medals from both the Commonwealth Games in Australia and the Asian Games in Indonesia.

His defining sporting moment arrived on 7 August 2021 in Tokyo. In the Olympic final, he threw 87.58 meters to secure India’s first ever Olympic gold medal in athletics. The victory turned him into a national hero and inspired track athletes nationwide.

Under German coach Klaus Bartonietz between 2021 and 2024, he won the Diamond League and 2023 World Championships gold in Budapest with an 88.17-meter throw. At Paris 2024, he claimed Olympic silver with an 89.45-meter throw, showing his consistency at the highest level.

In May 2025, he crossed the 90-meter barrier at the Doha Diamond League, achieving a long-sought personal milestone. In early 2026, after completing his training stint with Czech coach Jan Zelezny, he reunited with coach Jaiveer Singh Chaudhary to prepare for upcoming international meets.

Neeraj Chopra Body Transformation

Looking at his athletic build today, it is hard to believe that Neeraj spent his childhood struggling with weight. As a young boy in Khandra, he was pampered with rich village food, fresh milk, and sweets. Teased about his weight by other children, he felt uncomfortable about his physical condition.

His family stepped in out of concern for his health. His father encouraged him to enroll at a local gym in Panipat, but regular weight machines bored him quickly. Everything changed when he visited Shivaji Stadium in Panipat, saw athletes throwing the javelin, and decided to try the sport.

Coach Jaiveer Singh Chaudhary spotted his natural arm whip and started mentoring him during 2010 and 2011. Regular sprint drills, core conditioning, and technical practice gradually melted away his childhood weight. His journey from a teased kid into an Olympic champion remains inspiring.

Wife and Marriage

Neeraj surprised fans everywhere on 19 January 2025 when he shared pictures from his wedding. He married Himani Mor, a former competitive tennis player and coach from Sonipat, Haryana. The wedding took place quietly on 16 January 2025 near Solan in Himachal Pradesh, attended by close family.

The couple had known each other for years through common athletic circles. Because both came from sporting backgrounds, they shared a natural understanding of the training schedules and sacrifices required in professional sports. Both families gave their blessing, supporting their wish to celebrate quietly without media cameras.

In keeping with traditional Haryanvi values, his family took only a symbolic one rupee as shagun, firmly refusing dowry. Today, Himani Mor continues her work in sports management while Neeraj remains focused on international competitions, with both maintaining a grounded private life.

Privacy and Public Life

Because Neeraj has been one of India’s most high-profile athletes for years, media outlets often tried to speculate about his private life. During the Paris 2024 Olympics, viral video clips showing him speaking with fellow medalists sparked internet chatter and fan edits across social media platforms.

Neeraj maintained a dignified silence, avoiding public drama or social media arguments. Both families made it clear that the clips showed nothing more than professional camaraderie between Olympic medalists. His quiet marriage announcement in January 2025 conclusively put an end to online rumors.

Awards and Achievements

Neeraj Chopra holds one of the most decorated athletic records in Indian history. In 2018, he received the Arjuna Award following Commonwealth and Asian Games wins. His Tokyo Olympic victory earned him the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in 2021, India’s highest sporting honor.

In 2022, he received the Padma Shri along with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal from the Indian Army for distinguished service. He also won the Diamond League championship trophy, proving his regular excellence on the international circuit.

Beyond medals and official honors, his true impact is inspiring thousands of young athletes in rural towns across India to pick up javelin throwing, sprinting, and other field events that previously received limited spotlight.
